[The Funnix reading programme shows part of the workbook page on the computer screen]

Here's the first row of dotted letters you'll write. What letter are you going to write? [children answer] Yes, a.

[computer display shows a large a and some dotted a's.]
The letter a has two parts. One part is a c. The other part is a straight line. Here's how to make a letter a. I start at the big dot and trace the c part. Watch. [an onscreen animated pencil starts to write].

Now I go to the little dot and trace the dotted line down. Watch. [the animated pencil continues writing the sample a.]

Again. I start at the big dot and trace the c part. Watch. [the animated pencil writes] Now I go to the little dot and trace the line down. Watch. [the animated pencil writes]

Your turn. Touch the first dotted a on your worksheet. [children respond]. Start your pencil at the big dot and trace the c. Then trace the line down for the little dot. [children respond]

Complete the row of a's.
